Jan Żurek, a forestman by profession, has been working with wood since he was a child. At first he made all kinds of shelves and boxes and finally he started making chess. After some time he came up with an original idea – to create chess for three players. The board has a shape of a regular hexagon and is divided into three areas and 96 squares - 32 squares for each player. You play with the same chess pieces and apply the same rules as in the traditional chess game. The important part is finishing the game. The winner is the player who as the first one says checkmate, the other two lose the game. It forces the players to defend the weakest one in their own interest, which promotes altruistic behaviour. Such chess boards and chess pieces are made of lime tree, populus, aspen, beech and sycamore. The finishing works are made by hand. Apart from chess for three players Jan Żurek also produces traditional ones and chequers.
