Among shepherds there was a hierarchy which included rights and duties. The most important person was the senior shepherd. He had a few interesting functions: not only was he the organiser and the boss of the whole grazing but he also was a doctor, a vet, a simpler, a shaman and a magician. It was inispenisble for him to have a thorough knowledge of proper herbs. The senior shepherd was a person having immense public trust. The most important decisions were always discussed with him. 'Juhasi' (shepherds) were subordinate to the senior shepherd. Their duty was to look after grazing sheep, milk them and keep the shepherd's hut in a good condition. The last person in the hierarchy was 'honielnik', a young boy who was preparing to be a shepherd in the future.
